The kitchen at the American Legion Post 476 in Cohoes is busy with Thanksgiving preparations.

People at the post have been cooking for the last three days, making traditional Thanksgiving meals for anyone who wants one.

On Thanksgiving, they’ll be delivering to three senior buildings and the police department.

It’s a long-standing tradition going back 50-60 years, made possible by donations from local businesses and members.

They say they look forward to it every year.

“Well, because it’s Thanksgiving,” said House Chairman Jerry Oliver. “It’s a day to give. We don’t care who comes in. I don’t care if you’re rich or you’re poor. You want to come in with your family and have something to eat, you want to stop in and grab something to go, no problem. We’re here to please.”

The Cohoes American Legion also hosts a sit-down dinner from noon to 3pm on Thanksgiving. Anyone can walk in and be served. All are welcome.
