Amsterdam man admits to conspiracy to distribute drugs

An Amsterdam man has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to distribute fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine.

Bernardo Tovar, 34, admitted that from May 2022 to December 2022, he conspired to distribute counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl, as well as cocaine and meth. The combined amount of fentanyl he distributed exceed 160 grams, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Tovar also admitted to possessing fentanyl pills, cocaine and methamphetamine and a loaded handgun in his apartment to protect his drugs and drug proceeds. These items were found during a search of his apartment on Dec. 7, 2022.

Tovar has a prior felony conviction for attempted robbery.

He faces up to life in prison when sentenced on March 20. He could also be fined as much as $8 million.
