Student struck by a car at Amsterdam middle school

A student is recovering after being struck by a car at Lynch Middle School in Amsterdam. The driver is cooperating.

An Amsterdam elementary student was injured on Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle in the school parking lot.

Amsterdam Police received a report at 7:19 a.m. regarding a pedestrian struck in the lot of Wilbur H. Lynch Literacy Academy at 55 Brandt Place. She had an injury to one of her legs. She was treated on scene and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam for further evaluation.

The driver of the vehicle is a 69-year-old Amsterdam man. The driver told police that his view was obstructed by a parked car while attempting to exit a lane in the parking lot, police said.

The faculty parking lot is a limited access lot and the driver did not have a special use pass to be in the lot.

Amsterdam Police patrols will be assigned to assist school staff in the coming days at the entrance of the faculty lot.

No tickets have been issued at this time. Detectives are working with the school’s resource officer to obtain video footage of this accident.
