Competition in the World University Games is underway in the North Country. It’s the world’s largest collegiate winter sports competition. The games are second only to the Winter Olympics In size and scope and some of the events are taking place right here in our area.
More than 2,500 athletes and coaches from 43 countries are competing over 10 days, with 12 sports and 86 medal events.
It’s nearly two times the size of the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics. A competition that big is bigger than Lake Placid and needs to spread out.
Some of the events – slope style, big air, border cross and snowboard slaloms are taking place at Gore Mountain in Johnsburg.
Two of the events held at Gore will be broadcast to a worldwide audience on ESPN 2.
Business owners are thrilled, eager to show off North Creek to visitors from around the world.
