Backpacks, school supplies handed out in Rensselaer County

Dozens of children in Rensselaer County are starting school with a full backpack, thanks to the community.

Backpacks and school supplies were handed out Sunday at Riverfront Park.

The neighborhood block party also had food and games for families.

The event was sponsored by CDTA, the YMCA and several local businesses, including Korean restaurant Son of Egg, which recently opened a location in Rensselaer.

Organizers say about $10,000 in supplies were donated to kids in Rensselaer County schools.
