The Ballston Spa Central School District community is in mourning after the death of its longtime athletic director.

Dave Sunkes was director of health, physical education and athletics for over 20 years.

The school superintendent made an announcement saying Sunkes was well-known in every corner of the community to both the staff and the students.

Ballston Spa Mayor Frank Rossi also posted to Facebook saying quote “this loss has deeply affected our Ballston Spa community, and we are struggling to come to terms with this tragic event.”

Sunkes leaves behind a wife and three children.

There was no immediate word on Sunkes’ cause of death or funeral services.
