It was quite the surprise this week for a beloved neighbor in Rensselaer.

Ernie Mann woke up one morning to not only a crowd of his cheering neighbors, but a camera crew from The Today Show. It was all on live TV.

It all started with an email to honor him as a neighbor, and the work he’s done for the community.

Amy Mooney is the one who nominated Mann. She has him for years. During that time, she says nothing has changed about him and the kindness of his heart.

A now retired firefighter chief for Rensselaer County, she decided to celebrate him on a national stage.
