Bennington cemetery vandalized for second time in one year

For the second time in less than one year, police are investigating an act of vandalism at the village cemetery in Bennington, Vermont.

Ten headstones were toppled, and some of them were broken, said the town. This time, police identified two juvenile suspects. They were issued citations to appear in juvenile court. Their names are not being released because of their age.

More than 200 gravestones were vandalized last October, some dating back to the 1700s. Many were tipped over and damaged in the process. No one was ever arrested in that case.

A second restoration day will be held at the cemetery to help fix and restore those stones. That is scheduled for Saturday, May 27.
