A Bennington County man has died after crashing his truck.

The crash happened around 5:15 p.m. Monday in the town of Rupert.

Skyler N. Staples, 32, of Rupert, was driving his 2009 Nissan Frontier in the area of 1481 Kent Hollow Road, said Vermont State Police, when he left the south side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle then rolled down a steep embankment and into a nearby river before coming to rest on the driver side.

First responders removed Staples from the vehicle and tried to save him, but he died from his injuries.

Staples was not wearing his seat belt, police said.
