Bennington man accused of possessing bomb

A Bennington man is facing charges for allegedly possessing a bomb.  

Police picked up Tyler J. Hayes, 41, of River Street on an arrest warrant in connection with an explosive device that was found on Feb. 16, 2023 at 351 Overlea Road, police said.  

A property management company hired to clean up the property found the device. A second device was also found and removed. No one was home at the time and there were no injuries.  

Hayes has been charged with knowingly possessing a destructive device not registered to him. 

He was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court-Bennington Criminal Division on March 11 for a charge of fentanyl trafficking. 

Hayes was then turned over to a federal agent from Homeland Security Investigations regarding the bomb incident.
