Bow Tie rebrands, buys Huck Finn's Playland

Bow Tie Management has purchased Huck Finn’s Playland, the company announced on Friday.

The company operates BTM Cinemas, including in Schenectady and Saratoga Springs locally, and has rebranded as Scene One Entertainment.

Scene One will continue to operate the movie theaters and completed its acquisition of the Albany amusement park this week. Terms were not disclosed.

The company is also relocating its headquarters from Stamford, Conn. Joseph Masher, who was chief operating officer for Bow Tie Cinemas, is now owner and chief executive officer of Scene One Entertainment.

“Huck Finn’s Playland has entertained generations of residents of the Capital District. The park continues to delight, and it is my goal to preserve and grow it for many future generations,” Masher said in a statement. “There aren’t too many people that can say they own the very first Ferris wheel, Merry-Go-Round, scrambler, roller coaster, and train they rode as a child 50-plus years ago!

The park was originally Hoffman’s Playland in Latham. It was purchased at auction from the Sperber family in 2014 and moved next to the Huck Finn’s Warehouse.

Scene One currently operates 60 movie screens at nine movie theaters in Colorado, New Jersey, New York State, South Carolina, and Virginia with plans for additional theater acquisitions in Connecticut, Texas, and New York.
