Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg joined Gov. Kathy Hochul in Castleton-On-Hudson on Thursday.

The pair announced funding for safety and reliability improvements to the Castleton-On-Hudson Bridge.
About $21 million will go to a new eastbound bridge deck, a crash-tested railing for safety and better drainage to avoid hydroplaning.

The grant is part of the Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration Bridge Investment Program.

The bridge – built in 1959 – crosses the New York State Thruway across the Hudson River, connecting Albany and Rensselaer counties. About 17,000 travelers cross it every day.
