Campbell Avenue reopens in Troy after project nearly done
There’s a major update on a key road in Troy that was closed for construction this summer.
Campbell Avenue is back open and about 85% completed, Mayor Carmella Mantello said at a press conference Friday.
“We’re here to say Campbell Ave is officially opening today,” she announced to applause.
The more than million-dollar project brought lead pipe removal, plus much needed drainage and sidewalk improvements to make the important artery more accessible to cars and people.
“We mill and fill, we pave different road various days. This was a very, very complicated project,” she said.
Several weeks ago, a business owner along Campbell Avenue told NewsChannel 13 he and others may soon have to close their doors as the ongoing construction squeezed their businesses.
Mantello pushed back against businesses’ complaints Friday. She said fixing the drainage was something many voters asked her to do during her campaign.
Mike Cocca of Franklin Hospitality Group praised the project Friday.
Mantello told NewsChannel 13, she believed some businesses should have been more prepared for the project that began in June.
“I was begged by those very folks, we need Campbell Ave done,” she said. “You have to predicate your business model on the construction. Obviously I’m not in their books, etc., and clearly maybe they had other issues prior, because seven weeks here is not going to shut down a business.”
Some portions of the road will close temporarily to fix drainage in several areas as crews continue making repairs for a few weeks.
