Capital District YMCA hosts annual school supply giveaway
Nearly 300 kits, stuffed with school supplies, are now in the hands of kids in Albany, just in time for the new school year.
The Capital District YMCA held a giveaway in the city’s south end Saturday.
Backpacks, supplies and $100 gift cards were given out in partnership with the John T. Harris back-to-school community day, at the Mount Calvary Baptist church.
We’re told the tradition started about 10 years ago when Harris, a social worker, wanted to give back to his community.
This year alone, the YMCA’s running start program expects to serve 800 children in the Capital Region.
