Horse euthanized after car, carriage crash in Chestertown

A car and horse carriage crashed in Chestertown, sending at least four people to the hospital, and forcing a horse to be euthanized.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of 605 Atateka Drive, a dispatcher told NewsChannel 13.

Glenn Gritzbach, 68, of Pottersville crashed into the carriage, investigators said. Gritzbach and three people on the carriage, Anthony Willett, 22, of Queensbury, Joseph Howley, 25, and Sydney Howley, 26, both of Fort Drum, were taken to Glens Falls Hospital. They are expected to be OK.

There is no word on what caused the crash, but police don’t think speed, drugs or alcohol were involved.
