Cat left outside Saratoga County shelter has been found

Cat whose disappearance sparked outrage returns home

An army of supporters is breathing a sigh of relief after a cat returned home safely Thursday night.

The cat that had been missing since it was abandoned outside the Saratoga County Animal Shelter has been found.

Kane the cat has been located and is being cared for by a couple that lives on Mann Road, according to a Facebook post from its owner Jamie DiGiovanni.

“They have been feeding him for over a month but couldn’t get him in a cage so we could verify if it was him or not and last night they got him to come inside their home and called me. I went over to confirm if it was and sure enough it was.”

DiGiovanni said she was so overjoyed that she had not yet let everyone know. The cat slept with her son all night.

“Thank you to every single person who took time out of their day to help research for Kane, who shared our story and who prayed and send love loving and kind words and support. I meant it when I said we are not giving up on him and this is why.”

DiGiovanni added that she put a collar on him and a tracking device him. She is going to do everything she can to keep him inside.

Kane had been missing since January. Anthony Gargano, owner of the Spring Street Deli & Pizzeria, had seen the tabby stopping at his restaurant for treats. He decided to grab the feline and drive it to the animal shelter and dropped it off. The cat was left outside for hours during winter.

Gargano pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty and was fined $750. He is also prohibited from owning animals for 50 years.

NewsChannel 13’s Stella Porter is working on this story and will have an update from the owner on what Kane’s been through, starting Live at 4.
