DOH investigating video of former Catskill ambulance workers
Two former Town of Catskill ambulance workers seen in a shocking video making the rounds on social media have agreed to part ways with the town.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the New York State Department of Health told NewsChannel 13’s Stella Porter it is investigating the conduct seen in the video and cannot comment further on the matter.
Catskill Town Supervisor Patrick McCulloch told NewsChannel 13, “We are looking at the entire situation from when the call went out to when the crews arrived at the hospital. I want to ensure our ambulance staff have the training and tools necessary to provide our residents with exceptional service, patient care is our number one priority. On behalf of residents of Catskill, I would like to express my sincere apologies to Tom for how he was treated.”
McCulloch said he was not sure whether law enforcement was investigating. NewsChannel 13 contacted law enforcement and did not hear back.
The patient seen on his home security video and his wife are still shocked and outraged about what happened when they called 911, they said Tuesday.
Tom Weygant called for help last Friday night due to high blood pressure.
Video shows the former workers providing no help to Weygant, letting him fall on the ambulance floor and questioning whether he was actually ill.
Tom’s wife Rose Weygant told NewsChannel 13 she hoped the two former employees would not be able to work as EMTs elsewhere and treat other patients.
