City of Albany confirms new public safety commissioner

The city of Albany has a new Public Safety Commissioner. Former Judge Gary Stiglmeier was confirmed by the Albany Common Council.
He will be the designated arbiter of any discipline within the police department that is appealed.
To ensure independence from the city’s police department, Stiglmeier will report directly to the mayor and will not oversee operational administration of the police department.
