Cohoes couple could get back some seized animals

The couple who ran an unlicensed animal rescue shelter in Cohoes could get some of their animals back, depending on the outcome of the criminal case against them.

The couple who ran an unlicensed animal rescue shelter in Cohoes could get some of their animals back, depending on the outcome of the criminal case against them.

The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society seized 102 living animals from the home of Jennifer Uhl and Andrew Tremblay, who were allegedly operating an unlicensed rescue called Empawthy, out of their home.

The two are now facing criminal charges related to torturing animals.

The couple posted bail at $10,000 for seven of the seized animals, according to the humane society.

If the courts rule in their favor, two cats and one dog that lived with the family and one dog taken in just before the raid will be returned to the couple.

The other 95 animals will remain in the custody of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

Three of the recovered animals have since died, according to the humane society.

The animals are also being treated for various conditions including parasites, upper respiratory infections and malnourishment, the humane society said.

Three ferrets were also returned to the children, but they will be returned to the home of the biological mother of the children and are not allowed to enter the home of Jennifer Uhl and Andrew Tremblay until the criminal charges have been settled.

Uhl and Tremblay will be in court in Colonie next week.
