Empawthy Rescue defendants plead guilty to animal cruelty

The couple who ran an unlicensed animal rescue shelter in Cohoes have pleaded guilty to animal cruelty. Andrew Tremblay, 41, and Jennifer Uhl, 40, were arrested in January after the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society seized 102 animals from their home-based rescue called Empawthy Rescue in Cohoes. The animals were living in unsanitary environment with feces, urine, vomit and rotting food, according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office.

Andrew Tremblay, 41, and Jennifer Uhl, 40, were arrested in January after the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society seized 102 animals from their home-based rescue, Empawthy Rescue. The animals were living in unsanitary environment with feces, urine, vomit and rotting food, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office. They also had several highly transmissible diseases including ringworm, round worm and upper respiratory infections.

Tremblay and Uhl pleaded guilty in Colonie Town Court on Wednesday to animal cruelty. They will be placed on 3 years of probation and not be allowed to own or reside with animals for 10 years. They also must close their business and return any donations they received since being arrested.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 20.
