Cohoes man faces assault, weapons charge after domestic incident

A man is accused of threatening and assaulting a woman inside a car with a gun. Mark Malinowski did this while traveling in the car from Watervliet to Albany while a child was in the car.

A 38-year-old Cohoes man was arrested Sunday for allegedly hitting a person during a domestic incident.

Albany Police officers responded to Central Avenue and Quail Street around 11 a.m. for a report of a person with a weapon. Investigators learned that a woman was threatened with a handgun and assaulted during a vehicle traveling from Watervliet to Albany.

Police spotted the suspect, Marc Malinowski, leaving the victim’s vehicle and going to a nearby bus stop. He ran when officers attempted to stop him, but police said he was taken into custody after a brief foot chase.

Malinowski also allegedly had a loaded handgun.

The victim had a cut to her head during the incident. A child was in the vehicle but was not injured, police said.

Malinowski was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, assault, endangering the welfare of a child and obstructing governmental administration.

He was arraigned Monday, Aug. 5 in Albany City Criminal Court and sent to Albany County Jail.
