A Cohoes man was sentenced Friday to 25 years to life in prison for sexually abusing a child over a roughly three-year period.

Douglas Eckler, 29, was convicted in October of one count of predatory sexual assault against a child following a jury trial.

Eckler had abused a child under the age of 13 between spring 2020 and Feb. 28, 2023. Eckler knew the victim, prosecutors said.

Judge Roger McDonough said Eckler took from the victim “her innocence, her childhood, her ability to trust others,” according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

In addition, an order of protection was issued preventing Eckler from contacting the victim.
