The man who came out as gay in his own obituary is being honored with a special ceremony on Sunday.

The story of Col. Edward Ryan using his own obituary to tell the world that he was gay went around the world.

People were inspired that the decorated military man’s last act of bravery was telling his secret.

Ryan is being honored at a community ceremony at Rocks on Central Avenue.

The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will be a fundraiser for the Veterans Miracle Center.
