Colonie man admits to driving drunk, nearly striking trooper with car

A Colonie man has admitted to driving drunk and nearly striking a trooper with his car when he tried to get away from police.

Anthony J. Hawkins, 31, pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court on Thursday to felony driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

State Police stopped Hawkins on the Northway in Clifton Park on June 10. However, he didn’t follow instructions and left the scene, nearly hitting the trooper.

Hawkins turned himself in to police a few days later.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 9.
