Colonie man gets 1 year in jail for driving drunk, nearly hitting police car

A Colonie man was sentenced on Friday to one year in jail for driving drunk and nearly striking a trooper with his car when he tried to get away from police.

Anthony J. Hawkins, 31, was stopped by police June 10 on the Northway in Clifton Park. However, he ignored police commands and left the scene.

Hawkins turned himself into police a few days later.

He pleaded guilty in Saratoga County Court in November to a misdemeanor reckless endangerment charge.
