Columbia County man charged in dozens of sex crimes dating to 2011

A 77-year-old Columbia County man is facing more than 60 sexual abuse charges.

A 77-year-old Columbia County is facing a 66-count indictment on sexual abuse charges, and children are among his victims.

Barry Thompson is facing charges of predatory sexual assault against a child, course of sexual conduct against a child, first-degree criminal sex act, one count of first-degree sexual abuse and five counts of second-degree sexual abuse, 15 counts of second-degree criminal sex act, 40 counts of third-degree criminal sex act.

He is also facing misdemeanor counts of menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.

Thompson is a computer technician who owned and operated his own business called North Star Data out of his home, according to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office.

He is scheduled to be arraigned next week in Columbia County Court. An exact date has not been set.
