Corinth man sentenced to 8 years for assaulting wife

A Corinth man was sentenced in Saratoga County Court on Friday to 8 years in prison for assaulting his wife – despite her pleas not to put him behind bars because he has stomach cancer.

Joseph Murauskas, 45, had been charged with assault, but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of attempted assault in the middle of a trial.

Murauskas was arrested on March 25, 2023 for striking his wife in the face and head and sending her to the hospital.

Murauskas told the court that he has Stage 2 stomach cancer and said he would like to invoke his right to appeal saying it’s unjust based on his diagnosis.

His wife begged the court not to send him to prison.

“This may be the last day I ever see him,” she said.

The court ruled that the terms of the plea had already been decided at the time of his plea, but agreed to modify an order of protection allowing the wife to have limited electronic contact with him regarding financial matters as they relate to his illness.
