A preliminary cause of death has been determined for the inmate shown on video beaten up by corrections officers.

Thirteen employees were suspended and one resigned after the death of Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility.

NewsChannel 13 has obtained court documents in which New York State Police are asking to take away one of the correction officer’s guns. Police argued that the officer represents a danger to themselves or others.

The document states that police were told that the cause of manner of Brooks’ death are still pending. However, the preliminary autopsy results from the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office state that the cause of death is asphyxia due to compression of the neck.

Thirteen corrections officers and one nurse were named in this case at Marcy Correctional Facility.
