DEC announces start of controlled burns

We’ve officially reached the start of controlled fire season.

DEC announced Friday the agency will be conducting those burns from now until early may.
That means, the agency will be setting fires under controlled conditions across the state as a tool to help manage vegetation.

DEC says people living near these fires will be notified ahead of time – but don’t hesitate to report if you see smoke in the air.
There is also a ban on open burning – for civilians – until may 14th.
