Decision to fire Albany Airport CEO not flying with some
There’s lots of suspicion over the decision to fire Albany International Airport CEO Phil Calderone. The airport board of directors told Calderone earlier this month that they would not be extending his contract.
People are questioning the reasons and wisdom of that decision, given the airport is currently undergoing a $100 million makeover.
A group of 16 Albany County legislators have now written a letter to the airport authority, urging the authority to renew Calderone’s contract.
State lawmakers are crying out for transparency, while also questioning the timing of the Calderone decision.
Many people labeled Calderone’s ousting as a backdoor political maneuver designed to slide Albany County Executive Dan McCoy in as Calderone’s replacement. McCoy has since removed himself as a candidate for the job.
NewsChannel 13 has reached out to Calderone, McCoy, and the airport authority seeking comment. The only response we received was from Calderone’s office. The statement said Mr. Calderone is laser focused right now on the reconstruction project.
