Two Saratoga County sheriff’s deputies were shot Tuesday morning in Clifton Park. It happened around 5:30 a.m. while assisting the DEA with carrying out an arrest warrant.

The deputies returned fire, shooting the suspect, Anthony Zaremski. He died at Albany Medical Center around 9:15 a.m.

The deputies were part of a law enforcement team that arrived at 312 Foxwood Dr. and identified themselves. That’s when Zaremski began to shoot at them.

This is the first time in the history of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office where two members were shot, Zurlo said.

Both were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be OK.

EDITOR’S NOTE: NewsChannel 13 previously identified the deputies who were injured, but after Sheriff Michael Zurlo asked us to remove their names from our stories because of concerns about their safety, we agreed to. “As a matter of operational security, I have chosen not to release the names or identities of the deputies involved in this morning’s shooting incident,” the sheriff wrote in a statement. “I understand that some media outlets may have learned the names of the deputies through their sources, and respectfully ask that they not publish them at this time.”

“The quick thinking and instant actions by members of the Special Operations Team and rendering first aid to the injured deputies, including applying two tourniquets to the deputy shot in the thigh, was nothing short of heroic,” Zurlo said.
