Deputy Albany County executive charged with DWI

Deputy Albany County Executive Michael McLaughlin charged with DWI after a traffic stop.

The deputy Albany County executive is accused of DWI.

Michael McLaughlin Jr., 38, was pulled over at around 11 p.m., according to State Police.

McLaughlin was stopped near the intersection of Wolf and Albany Shaker roads after he allegedly drifted out of his lane and failed to use a turn single properly, according to the Times Union, which was first to report the story. He refused to provide a breath sample, police said.

McLaughlin was charged with misdemeanor DWI.

He was ticketed and is due in Colonie Town Court on May 20.

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy released a statement on the matter.
“Here in this Country, we have fought for freedom and the right to due process. Everyone has the right to defend themselves against allegations. Here, there are allegations which Mike shall be defending with his private attorney. This matter is not government related and did not occur in any capacity of his or anyone else’s official capacity. We shall continue to support our colleague through his personal matter.”
