One Northway lane still closed as cleanup continues from tractor-trailer fuel leak

Southbound Northway traffic is beginning to move more freely following a backup caused by a disabled tractor-trailer.

State Police responded to a report of a disabled tractor-trailer at about 1:40 p.m. in the area of Exits 6 and 7 in Colonie. At one point, all right lanes were closed so the trailer could be removed and then the tractor cab.

One lane remains closed as of 6 p.m., according to State Police.

Once crews began assessing the situation and removing the tractor cab, they discovered a large amount of diesel fuel had leaked during a mechanical issue, police said.

The commercial vehicle has been removed and cleanup is continuing.
