Disabled vehicle leads to drugged driving, animal cruelty charges for pair
Two people are facing multiple charges, including driving while impaired by drugs and animal cruelty. It started after their vehicle became disabled on the Northway, police say.
Jennifer R. Hagadorn, 34, of Gansevoort, was driving around 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, when her car stopped working. Hagadorn and her passenger, Guy A. Chadwick, 42, of Queensbury, began arguing. Hagadorn began to walk away from the vehicle and Chadwick allegedly released the dog, which was then struck and severely injured by a passing vehicle, police said. A child under 2 was in the car, police said.
During the investigation, Hagadorn provided a fake identity, police said. She allegedly was driving under the influence of drugs and had hypodermic needles and drugs.
Hagadorn also allegedly violated an order of protection prohibiting her from having contact with the child in the vehicle. Her license was revoked due to having a previous conviction for DWI within the last 10 years.
Police also found used hypodermic needles, a glass smoking device containing drug residue. The car seat also was not secured to the vehicle police said.
The child was turned over to a family member. A bystander took the dog to a veterinary clinic.
Hagadorn was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal contempt, criminal impersonation, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child, aggravated unlicensed operator and traffic violations.
Hagadorn was sent to Saratoga County Jail in lieu of bail of $2,500 cash, $5,000 bond or $25,000 partially secured bond.
Chadwick was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, endangering the welfare of a child and torturing or injuring an animal.
Chadwick was released under the supervision of the Saratoga County Probation Department.
