Dog treks 600 yards home after being shot in Greene County

A dog was shot in Greene County, then walked about 600 yards home. A blood trail was left along the way. Luckily, the animal is expected to survive.

It happened Jan. 1 near in Athens, but State Police only recently released details.

The dog’s owner saw it bleeding with an injured leg and quickly got help.

The 2-year-old 80-pound Great Pyrenees German Shepard mix was taken to Kingston Animal Hospital with a broken pelvis and femur. It then received surgery at a veterinarian clinic in Stamford, Connecticut.
