Don’t gamble on last minute hotel deals for Belmont
Most of the more than 3,000 hotel rooms in Saratoga County are full this weekend with the Belmont Stakes in town.
Dan Fortier, general manager of the Embassy Suites, said this could be the biggest week in the history of the hotel.
“Belmont, Saratoga style. This is a big, big deal,” he said.
A search for rooms in town using Expedia shows it might be hard to find a deal on a room, but they are available.
Expedia is offering a King suite for $749, which is less than some properties and a little more than others. That is what he would expect for a Triple Crown race, Fortier said.
“We are in the right range if you were in Kentucky right now, or if you were going to the Preakness. We are in the right range to be competitive,” he said.
If you’ve been waiting to book, hoping rates will drop and you’ll get a last-minute deal, don’t bet on it.
“I wouldn’t gamble too much on that, being in a gambling town. I wouldn’t gamble too much on the day of. Especially a Belmont scenario of hoping to walk into a hotel, and just catching a room,” he said.
“There’s going to be a lot of racing fans discovering Saratoga for the first time,” he added.
