New York State Department of Transportation crews are once again putting the call out for more plow truck drivers.

The workers have been busy preparing for the first winter weather event of the season.

Days before the storm, trucks were out pre-treating the roads.

Once the snow started to fall, crews were out clearing the roads, working to keep everyone safe.

The DOT has more than 180 plow trucks ready in the Capital Region, but they are also looking for more people to get behind the wheel of those trucks.

Like many others, the snowplow industry is facing staffing shortages. There are three positions available, and the salaries vary by county. For Albany, Columbia, Greene, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren, and Washington Counties, salaries start at just over $40,000. For Fulton, and Schoharie counties, the starting salary is just over $36,000.

When you see plows on the road, remember to be cautious, patient, and give them space to do their jobs.
