Downstate section of Thruway to close over part of January weekend
A stretch of the Thruway between Orange and Ulster counties will be fully closed during the night on Saturday, Jan. 6.
The closure will last at least 12 hours so the Thruway Authority can remove the overpass.
The Thruway will be closed from Exit 17 in Newburgh to Exit 18 in New Paltz.
The shutdown will start at 7 p.m. on that Saturday.
The Plattekill service area will close at 5 p.m.
Anyone heading that direction should use Route 9W for the duration of the closure. Detour signs will be in place.
The Brookside Road overpass is being removed for public safety because it has been hit 27 times since 2019 by vehicles that are too tall.
