Man who owns a cannabis business is accused of driving while impaired and causing a crash that injured 8 people.

The owner of a Schenectady cannabis store is facing multiple charges for allegedly driving while impaired and speeding and causing a multivehicle crash near the Crossgates Mall ramp.

Donald Andrews Jr., 35, of Schenectady, was under the influence of drugs and alcohol Feb. 11, when the Tesla he was driving careened off the Crossgates Mall ramp, according to State Police. They said Andrew’s impairment combined with excessive speed caused the crash.

Eight people including Andrews were taken to Albany Medical Center after the crash. Three were considered to be in critical condition.

All northbound lanes the night of the accident were closed for approximately eight hours while State Police conducted their investigation.

Andrews, who owns Upstate Canna, was charged with:

  • Aggravated vehicular assault
  • Three counts of second degree assault
  • Four counts of third degree assault
  • Four counts of reckless endangerment
  • Two counts endangering the welfare of a child
  • Driving while ability impaired
  • Numerous additional vehicle and traffic law violations
