Menas resigns as Empire coach; LaSalle’s Audino offered the job

The Albany Empire is in search of a new head coach for the second time in three weeks. Tom Menas announced his resignation Sunday after returning to coach the team just 18 days ago after being fire in April.

“I have come to realize that my vision doesn’t match our ownership’s vision,” Menas said in a statement. “I need to do the right thing and step aside to allow the Albany Empire to find a head coach that matches their vision.”

Empire owner Antonio Brown tells NewsChannel 13 that John Audino will be the new head coach. However, Audino told NewsChannel 13’s Rodger Wyland he hasn’t accepted the job yet.

Audino spent 24 seasons as the head coach at Union College and is currently the head coach at La Salle Institute.

In the meantime, Brown also announced that he will play for the Empire in the game this coming Saturday, May 27 at MVP Arena.
