Exclusive NewsChannel 13/SurveyUSA Poll: Economy, abortion top issues for NY-19 voters

The economy, abortion and immigration were the top three issues in a poll of voters in the 19th Congressional District.

The poll, commissioned by NewsChannel 13, was done by SurveyUSA. It surveyed 725 voters who live in the district, which includes part of Rensselaer County and all of Greene and Columbia counties.

Jobs and the economy was cited by 25% of those surveyed as the top issue. This was followed by abortion at 16% and immigration at 15%.

People were also asked if they believed that there should be a federal law restoring a nationwide right to abortion in all states, like it was under Roe v. Wade. A total of 58% said they supported a federal law, 31% said it should be left to each state to decide and 11% were not sure.

On the issue of immigration, people were asked to describe the issue of migrants arriving at the southern border to seek sanctuary. A total of 43% described it as a crisis; 39% said it was somewhat of an issue; 13% said it wasn’t an issue at all and 5% were not sure.

SurveyUSA also asked voters whether they are planning to vote for incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro, who is seeking his second term, or Democratic challenger Josh Riley.

We will bring you the results later on Tuesday on air and online.
