Expected rush into Belmont gates actually leisurely stroll for most

Fans slowly arrive at track

There was no big rush at the gates on Thursday morning for the start of the Belmont Stakes.

For day one of the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival, it was not your typical opening day at Saratoga Race Course.

Traditionally, dozens of diehard fans will line up for hours and hours to get inside the gates.

There was no rush as the gates opened Thursday morning.

There were a few changes from a traditional festival. The gates opened much later than normal. People could get tables at 7 a.m., but the gates officially opened at 11 a.m.

Also, NYRA is only letting people bring in one folding chair and one small cooler and no alcoholic beverages.

The festival is also primarily cashless, with cash being used on wagering.

Also, there is no reentry allowed.
