Fair Haven officer-involved shooting under investigation

Vermont State Police is investigating a fatal shooting.

An officer with the Fair Haven Police Department went to a home on Washington Street at about 7:40 p.m. Monday, responding to a report of an incident.

VSP said once the officer arrived, there was an altercation with a man outside the home. The officer fired his handgun, striking the man. VSP said it could not elaborate on the nature of the altercation.

He was brought to the Rutland Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

VSP is investigating, and the officer will be identified within 24 hours of the shooting, as is standard practice.
