The family members of a homicide victim in Cohoes set up a tribute to honor his life.

On Monday, the family of Shieer Leggett brought candles, balloons and heartfelt messages to a makeshift memorial to pay respect.

Last Friday, Cohoes Police received calls for a shooting at the intersection of Main Street and Schuyler Street, according to officials. That’s where officers found Leggett on the ground with two shots in his back.

Life-saving measures were performed at the scene, but Leggett died soon after he was taken to Albany Med, police said.

NewsChannel 13 spoke to one of his younger sisters on Monday who set up the tribute for him. While she did not want to go on camera, she did read two of the notes that were left for her brother.

“Long live Shi. Rest in peace, Shi. I love you bro. I’m gonna miss you so much.” one card said. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Leggett was 27 years old.

Cohoes Police Chief Todd Waldin says from reviewing surveillance footage; there was a group of about eight to ten people.

There was a verbal argument that then escalated into a shooting. Leggett was shot twice—one time in the chest and another in the back. Chief Waldin said there were multiple guns involved.
“He was transported by ambulance down to the hospital. They worked on him there but had to stop because there was no point. He was deceased….he was not able to speak. His injuries were very severe when we arrived on the scene,” Chief Waldin said.

There are promising leads in the case because of the surveillance footage, but nobody is in custody.
