Troy fire chief says cause of fire undetermined

Troy fire chief says cause of fire undetermined because of the amount of damage to the house.

The cause of a fire that resulted in a Troy woman losing her father’s ashes is undetermined, according to the fire chief.

The fire at Jennifer Brunson’s fifth Street residence happened on Jan. 4. Firefighters took her father’s ashes that were in a urn to be tested for possible concerns that they were drugs or something hazardous.

Brunson has blasted city officials for not returning the ashes. All she has left of her father’s remains is a damaged urn.

Fire Chief Richard Celluci said because of the amount of damage to the room where the fire originated, investigations could not identify a specific cause.

The city of Troy has let Brunson view body-worn camera from inside the home. Troy officials have defended their handling of the situation.
