A fire late Sunday night destroyed a former a mill in Gloversville.

Fire broke out around 11:24 p.m. at the old Continental Mill building at 40 Beaver St., according to Battalion Chief Stephen West.

About 40 firefighters from Gloversville, Johnstown and Pleasant Square fire departments responded to the scene. It took several hours to get it under control, according to West.

The roof caved in and the structure appears to be a total loss. At least a portion of it will have to be demolished, according to West.

No one was injured.

West said the building may have been used for storage for the mill across the street.

The cause is unknown at this time.

The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control is handling the investigation.
