A Red Flag Warning was in effect in the Capital Region on Monday. That means conditions are high for any fires that ignite to spread quickly.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is reminding New Yorkers the annual statewide burn ban lasts through May 14.

With warmer temperatures and lower humidity, the risk of fire has increased across the state this week.

Open burning of debris is the single-largest cause of spring wildfires in New York state.
