Crews are investigating a fire at an apartment building in Great Barrington.

The fire happened on Manville Street on Tuesday night, according to our media partners at The Berkshire Eagle.

Investigators believe that the fire was caused by improper use of electric heat tape on pipes.

No one was injured.

Damage was confined to a garage storage unit and the apartment above.

The Great Barrington fire chief tells the paper that smoke detectors helped prevent a more destructive fire.
