Firefighters: Deadly Colonie house fire posed big challenges
Firefighters responded quickly to a fire that killed three people inside a two-story home in Colonie on Monday.
The Colonie Fire Department is a few buildings away on Central Avenue.
A family of five lived inside the two-story home on Locust Park in Colonie that caught fire on Monday evening – a mother, two adult children, one wife and one girlfriend. All of them were home at the time.
Killed in the fire were Katie Ryan, and son in law, Tim Ryan, according to Ryan’s employer Premiere Transportation. A person who said he’s a family member told NewsChannel 13 the third person who died is Lynn Lyons.
Tommy Lyons posted video and still pictures of his escape from the burning home. He also mentioned that his girlfriend managed to escape.
The fire was intense. It quickly spread due to extremely windy conditions.
However, the biggest challenge according to Colonie Fire Chief Jeffrey Kayser was the clutter inside the home. The chief said it prevented firefighters from getting in, and it prevented three fire victims from getting out.
