Firefighters save apartment building in Catskill

Firefighters were able to save most of an apartment building in Catskill, thanks to a quick response.

Crews responded to the building at the intersection of Route 9W and Depot Street early Saturday morning for report of a working structure fire. The blaze started in the kitchen. There was heavy fire, and it was extending to the first floor. Catskill crews were able to quickly contain it, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

Hudson firefighters also responded and handled the floor above and the roof. The fire did not spread beyond the first floor, which fire officials said is fortunate because the building is a 19th-centruy structure.

Firefighters were able to save 90% of the building. The Greenport and Leeds fire departments assisted at the scene along with Catskill ambulance, Catskill Police Department and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office.

There were no reports of injuries. Firefighters rescued a cat.
